My Outlook (2003) has decided it doesn't need my permission to send
emails. Occasionally, a short time after I open an email I've received from
someone, they receive a reply from me, but the body of the email is blank.
And I did not send it; nor is there a copy of it in my Sent folder. Yet they
clearly received an email from me replying to theirs. What could be
happening here? More importantly, how can I stop it? This has happened at
least 3 times in the past several weeks.

Is it a read receipt?

The other possibility is that you have a virus or someone spoofing your
sender address and it is just coincidental that it appears to be in reply to
an email you have received.

Examining the email header might give you more info as to what is happening.
