(BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 update question.

I just installed this from the Windows Update website:

"Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1."

I was reading a knowledge base article on it but I still
don't quite understand it.

Does anyone know if this is only for the auto Windows
update feature in Win XP, or will this enhance all
downloads?

Hi,

This is meant for Windows Update as well as other programs that support BITS
protocol.

Well now Windows Updates supports BITS functionality and in future more
programs that are used for downloading data from a server will be written
using BITS.

Hi Nancy,

Good for you! You actually read what the downloads are before agreeing to
them. Wish more people would do that. In this case, it is quite normal, and
it's actually your prompt to be migrated to the new V5 Windows Update site.
It is now public and uses BITS (great for restarting downloads if you get
disconnected, you don't have to start from the beginning). Users will be
prompted to migrate over the next couple of weeks, but it will not do
everyone at once.
