BIOS will not accept more RAM

I added a 256 strip of RAM to a HP..XP system, and the
BIOS will not recognize more than 128 MB of RAM...
I tried both slots, and even with the 256 chip in the
original slot, it only reads 128 MB...
Help?

Are you replacing a memory stick? What size was it?

Could be that your computer's bios only supports
128 MB memory in each slot.

Onr of my computers is limited to 256MB in each slot.

Greetings --

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.
