BIOS upgrade issue

I received from MSI tech support a BIOS upgrade that will assist in Win XP
Pro to work correctly once SP@ is installed. I open the zip file,
downloaded the contents to a folder I created, formatted a floppy, then
copied the bios files. I then formatted another floppy as a MSDOS startup
disk. MSI tells me to boot from the MSDOS disk then once at the A:\ prompt
to removed that disk, place the bios disk in the floppy, then enact the bios
upgrade. My computer refuses to accept this as I get a invalid file error
message. I tried by leaving the files in the folder and at the A:\ prompt
typing
C: and enter and it states invalid command.

My system is working great, no problems at all. Since I have an AMD 64 bit
chip MSI tells me the 1.83 bios will stop the error messages I got when I
tried SP2. Currently, running win xp SP1 only. I have disabled the virus
program prior to trying this update. Any suggestions? I will be grateful
and thank you in advance.

Are you able to boot from the floppy disk??? Do you ultimately get an
A: prompt?? You must reach this point in order to do a flash.

typing
Once you get an A: prompt, insert the other floppy with the flash
program and the flash file. Do not enter "C:", your information is ALL
on the floppy disk. Make sure you understand what you are doing before
you flash your bios. If you screw it up your computer will not start.

In this case, I would update the BIOS. There are a number of issues
with very recent Intel and AMD processors (Intel Prescott and AMD with
Execution protection) that really do need and justify bios updates.

Generally, the bios update files can be on the bootable floppy. In
fact, they can be anywhere that DOS can get to them, in most cases (e.g.
they can just stay on the hard drive, if you know the path and filename,
and if they are in a FAT32 partition). But I don't see any reason to
use two floppies.

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. I have a feeling that you were
sent some type of compressed files (ZIP files, for example) and that you
have not "un-zipped" them and therefore can't use them. Just a guess.
Give us the full filenames in your next post.

Hmmm, system running great, no problems at all. And you want to risk
flashing to use sp2? I would NOT recommend that plan.

Put the unpacked bios flash program and its data file onto the same
MSDOS bootable floppy - don't complicate things by having a second one.
If the program is called say flash.exe, boot the floppy and give
flash

If that gives a failure, you need to download the flash program again -
it got damaged along the way
