Have a Downloaded Upgrade Flash BIOS program for my PC on
a Floppy Disk. Old version is A06. New Version is A11.
Not sre how to UPdate with floppy. The floppy has a Setup
button. Click this and brings up a DOS box.But this is to
make the floppy I have.
Next Step was to insert floppy into drive and reboot.
First time PC just rebooted normal, nothing else. Second
time I pressed F2 to bring up the System Setup page.
Dont know what to do next.
The MAIN menu had a
Quick Boot Enabled and other things.Saw my currnt v A06.
The BOOT menu had
1st Boot Device IDE-HDD
2nd Boot Device ATAPI(CR-ROM)
3rd Boot Device Disabled
ADVANVED menu had
Boot Configuration. I Arrowed down to
Disk Cofiguration then ENTER on keyboard
Now showed
Disk Controller Enabled I arrowed down to
Floppy Disk A then ENTER Page went back to
Disk Configuration. I EXIT.
I guess most of these menues are to BOOT UP your PC.
I dont want to do this. I want to UPgrade my BIOS.
I dont know which one is correct to do for UPgrade BIOS.
I dont want to make a mistake on BIOS UP grade.
I am changing O/S from ME to XP cause ME not
stable.Microsoft sez to UPgrade BIOS before INstalling XP.
I am asking for CORRECT EXACT LINE STEP instructions cause
I dont know what Im doing. Thanks. jollyjr1

Go here and download a bootdisk. www.bootdisk.com In the Bios set
the floppy drive as first boot
device. Boot with the disk and when you are at a Dos Prompt remove the
bootdisk and insert the
Floppy Flash Bios disk. I don't remember but you may have to change
directories. If at the
C:\ type cd A: If at the A:\ already then your fine. Once at
A:\ type: Dir This will show you all
the files on the Flash Bios Disk. From there just follow the
instructions. NOTE: Before doing all this
go back to where you got the Bios upgrade or the Motherboards website
and see if they have instructions for upgrading Bios. VERY IMPORTANT so
that you don't screw up.

I don't want to sound degrading but, you may want to leave the BIOS alone if you don't know what you
are doing.

Why do you want to upgrade your BIOS? Are you having some specific problem?

I second that Randy. It appears that the OP should have someone more
familiar with the "inner workings" of a PC do the update, if there is a
reason for the update in the first place. Flashing the BIOS is very risky
business and could render the computer unusable if it is not preformed
properly.

IMO, JAX

Take a floppy disk and format it; in My computer, r-click on the drive,
take Format; select 'MSDOS Startup disk'. When done, open it and copy
the flash program and its data file to it.

Now shut down and restart - you may have to go to BIOS setup to set to
boot floppy before hard disk (A:, C:). When the floppy has booted to an
A:> prompt run the flash program by typing in its name and Enter. They
are usually easy enough to follow; but two points

As first action, back up the present BIOS (onto the floppy).

If after doing the flash stage there is any *hint* that it has not fully
succeeded, DO NOT REBOOT or SWITCH OFF or use CTL ALT DEL. Immediately
run the program again, to restore that backup

1. If you don't know what you are doing, STOP IMMEDIATELY. Pack up
your box and take it to a real computer store (not BestBuy or
Circuit-RipYouOff-City) and ask for help.

2. Only upgrade your BIOS if you must. Upgrading BIOS just because
there is a newer version out there is dumb and dangerous.
