I flash the bios in another computer and all I get are beeps. If I take out
the CMOS battery and leave it out for two hours, will that work so I can fix
it?

Thank you,
David

Did the BIOS flash complete with an OK status? Was power interrupted?
Did you boot from a floppy and run the flash program from there? Or did
you try to flash the BIOS while an OS was still running (i.e., running
the flash under Windows, for example)?

Did you use the correct image file to burn the EEPROM with valid BIOS
code? If you used the wrong .bin file to flash the BIOS, like for the
wrong model, then it is likely your BIOS is hosed and the motherboard
will never boot up. You will then have to buy EEPROM replacements to
get working BIOS code within it or you will have to get a new
motherboard (and stop flashing the BIOS when you don't have a clue that
it gives you anything of benefit). You could try the mobo maker to see
if they sell BIOS chips; else, you have to try to find someone that
sells BIOS chips, like biosman.com (I've never used them).

When starting the flash program, it should have asked if you wanted to
save a backup. Try booting from a floppy, running their flash program,
and point at the backed up .bin file to reload your old BIOS code. That
will only work if the BIOS currently burned in the EEPROM can get as far
as past the POST and booting from the floppy to load the DOS under which
you can start the flash program.

There are some motherboards that will not boot with a dead or missing
CMOS battery. Have you replaced it yet with a new one?

That kinda works, however to go by mfg recommendations, once the battery
is removed, locate the CMOS jumper pin on the board, move from 1-2 to 2-3
position for .45 seconds or so,then back to 1-2 position,replace battery.This
resets to mfg default,no more time is needed, however, boot to BIOS & reset
as needed.

If you actually flashed the BIOS with a wrong version or unsuccessfully, no,
taking the battery out won't have the effect you want.

Flash memory doesn't rely on battery power to maintain storage, so rhe wrong
or incomplete / corrupt BIOS will still be in place.

You would have to invoke the flash utility again with the correct version,
perhaps the original, which you take from the board manufacturer's website.

Resetting the CMOS settings by taking the battery out only affects user
settings, not the BIOS itself.

How would I Invoke the flash utility again? I used the correct version. I
did it wrong when I flashed it.
