This is obviously a hardware problem. It has nothing at all to do
with Windows. A hardware newsgroup would be a much better
place to post your question.

I just had a client machine do the same thing. The onboard video chip
went out. Adding a PCI card didn't help as I couldn't get to the BIOS
config to turn off onboard video.

Have you tried the display on another computer to verify that the
display and video cable are working properly?

Have you tried another display on the computer?

Most PCs conduct a Power On Self Test (POST) when initially turned on.
In SOME cases the POST will detect that the computer's video accelerator
(on board or on a card) is malfunctioning. The POST will generate a
pattern of beeps from the computer's internal speaker as a way of
identifying a lack of video support and some other crippling problems.
Check the support pages on the computer or motherboard manufacturer's
web site for a list of the POST beep codes. The POST beep codes are
often different for different brands of motherboards.

MOST computers generate a SINGLE beep when the POST doesn't detect any
problems.

With so many systems featuring video integrated into the motherboard, a
failure of the video display hardware might require a motherboard
replacement to correct. Sometimes components like cases, drives and
memory strips are compatible with a new motherboard/CPU. If you end up
having to replace the memory strips a single strip is better than two
smaller chips because it leaves you more empty slots for added memory at
a later date.

The first thing I would look would be the monitor. Check that it's
plugged in and turned on and that its data cable is securely connected
to the computer. If those things are right, then see if you can beg or
borrow another monitor to hook up. If the replacement monitor works,
then yours doesn't.

This has nothing to do with XP as it occurs before the OS begins to
load.

Ask elsewhere.
