BIOS..but nothing else.....

Tried to install Win XP Home on my "old" Presario notebook that was running ME.
Between running the XP disk and the three System restore disks that came
with the computer it seems I have managed to completely wipe out the hard
drive.

I can access BIOS(F10) and the clock looks like it reset to the time I
messed everything up.No matter what drive(cd,Floppy,Network,Hard) I choose to
boot from I get the same message......

"Remove disks or other media and press any key to restart"

Anyone have any suggestions as to ...

1)What have I done?
2)Where to start in trying to resolve the problem?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

An obvious but often overlooked item, is there a floppy in the drive?

Try resseting the BIOS to its default values.

John John.......Thanks for the response.

There is a floppy drive but when i set the BIOS to default(boot from from
floppy),I still get the same message( on what looks like a DOS screen)......

"Remove disks or other media and press any key to start"

So what you are saying is that you cannot boot with the hard drive, you
cannot boot with a bootable cd and you cannot boot with a bootable
floppy diskette? Can you boot with a Windows 98 boot diskette? If you
don't have a Windows 98 boot floppy go to bootdisk.com, download and
create the floppy diskette. Set the BIOS to boot to the floppy drive
then try to boot with the W98 boot diskette.

Did you try resetting the BIOS to its default values?
