Trying to install XP so I can dual boot XP and Vista on same laptop...

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv6628us laptop. It currently has a
factory/OEM version of Vista Home Edition (with all the trial software crap)
installed. It would have been nice to have all the software that came with
the laptop separated and a person could choose what to install but they
wanted/needed to bundle it :(

I wanted to dual boot Win XP Pro and Vista so I followed the steps from the
following website
http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_...talled_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm?page=1

The problem I'm encountering is when I try to install Win XP I get the
following error message:

The Windows XP Pro error message:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make
sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your
computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This
may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup press F3

I have an unbundled Vista Setup disk which is able to see the hard drive
with out any problems as with a DOS boot disk via a USB floppy. Did
Microsoft and HP make it so that people with Vista certified machine will be
unable to install any other operating systems other than Vista? Is this the
future of PC computing?

In the phoenix BIOS I can't see what hard drive is in this laptop or the
parameters either. The very basic options in the BIOS related to the hard
drive is to run some tests and change the boot order.

Any help/ideas will be much appreciated,

Ismael

Hi,
The problem is that XP installer does not support SATA hard disks.
You need to download the SATA drivers for your Laptop and copy it to a USB
stick. During the XP installation , you can specify additional drivers that
are there in your USB disk.
For more info google for 'XP installation on SATA'
Hope it helps.
Thanks

No, that won't work at all, the drivers *must* be supplied on a floppy
diskette, the setup program will not accept them from any other media
source.

Put the controller drivers on a floppy diskette and use the F6 method to
supply the drivers to the Windows XP setup program.
