my father in law is getting error messages such as:

"windows cannot access the specified device, path, or
file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to
access the item."

help please

sounds like he's logged in as administrator instead of
his regular name. go to Start\Run\control userpasswords2
and uncheck the box 'users must enter'. go to control
panel and find users. change the way you log on to
welcome screen. if it comes up administrator, simply
change to your user name and password if you have one.

Administrator comes up only if there is no other
designated admin.
