big problems

ok heres the situation. i recently made a mistake and restored a backup
of drives key in hopes it would help in my original dilemma, which was
only that i could not install yahoo messenger.
ok after doin that i found that my mcafee security center was
dismantled and was displaying various messages such as ...not installed
properly. so i decided to install another antivirus(kapersky) after
reading reviews saying it was better and would detect viruses i had
problems with mcafee detecting. so i got a message sayin i should
completeley uninstall all components of mcafee which i did manually by
deleting all mcafee files from my program files.
however, whenever i try to install anothe rantivirus program to replace
mcafee, it says it can not because i still have to uninstall "mcafee
antivirus professional bonus pack", which i cant find on my computer at
all. in addition i am unable to run many exe files that install programs
such as yahoo messenger and a mcafee removal tool i dl'd . on the yahoo
installion if i doubleclick the installation icon twice in a row it
will initialize but after clicking next , it just poofs and goes away.
so there u have it sirs , my big problems, 2 actually. i would very
much appreciate any assistance anyone would be willing to give as i am
without antivirus protection until i resolve this. ty in advance

when i double click the removal tool it displays the same behavior(no
initializing at all

If that doesn't work, sorry i am out of ideas. You may want to post in the
mcafee board or e-mail them.

As you removed just the files and not the registry entries it might be other
programs are recognizing them and mistakingly believe McAfee still running.
Also you may have remnants in ..\Program Files\Common Files and other
places, so I would try to install McAfee again to have a working
installation and THEN deinstall it by using Control Panel "Add and Remove
Programs" - this is a better approach then just file deletion. If this
doesn't work you will have to clean your registry manually or still better
do a clean install of your whole computer ...

ok ty alot guys but um ..if i do have to reinstall windows entirely
....am i gonna lose alot of stuff?
