BIG BLUE SCREEN UPON BOOTING

DESCRIPTION OF COMPUTER PROBLEM
12 December 2003

Problem Statement:
I cannot currently operate my computer. I am using my
wife's computer to report this problem, so I guessed at
the Service Pack and File System. The problem started
when I was using Norton System Works to do some clean up
of my hard drive. I updated all the parts of System Works
first. Then I defragged the hard drive, ran Disk Doctor,
and scanned for viruses. I opened Clean Sweep and
completed the first operation to free up unspecified
space. Then I decided to get rid of unwanted cookies. I
began a process of working backward from the most
currently installed cookies to the older ones. I examined
the information on each cookie, selected the cookies I
wanted to keep, and deleted the rest. I finished with the
newer categories and was working on the older group when
I interrupted my work for about an hour, leaving Clean
Sweep running. When I returned, I had a big blue screen
with a message on it described in the next block. I
cannot get the computer to load up completely, although
it will sometimes get pretty far, before the blue screen
again appears. I have tried using "Safe" mode in Windows,
but get the blue screen in that mode too. Because I was
using Clean Sweep and had it running when the problem
occurred, I suspect there is some link to the problem.

Any Error Messages Received:
The following is the content of the Blue Screen message:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer

DRIVER_IRQU_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

It this is the first time you have seen this screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, then
follow these steps.

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is
properly installed. If a new installation, ask you
hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates
you may need, if any.

If the problem continues, disable or remove any newly
installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use
safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer , press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options,
and then select Safe Mode.

What I Have Done To Date:
First, I've tried several times to start the computer in
normal mode, and can almost get the desktop fully loaded.
But the blue screen comes on before completion. I've
tried to start it in safe mode, but the blue screen comes
on even sooner than before. I have not made any new
hardware or software installation. Even so, I have
disconnected most hardware items one by one, and have
tried to start the computer after each one was
disconnected. The blue screen came on each time. I can't
follow any other instructions on the blue screen because
I can't get the computer running in any mode.
