I do not seem to be able to get word 2007 to recognize a new style I place in
the bibliography style folder. If I copy a microsoft style already there and
paste it in it shows up with the same name as the origianl that is because
names need to be changed within the style sheet. However if I edit the style
sheet within expression web or notepad or whatever and then save it back to
the bib folder then word doesn't recognize it...does not appear on the bib
style drop down menu. I've tried dragging the file into the bib folder but
that doesn't help either.

Word only loads the different styles once. So if you copy a new stylesheet
into the style folder, Word needs to be restarted to recognize the style.

Also, make sure you copy the style to the correct folder and not to some
derived folder due to security issues.

Assuming that is not the problem here, are you sure that all tags are
perfectly balanced in your edited stylesheet? If you make even the slightest
mistake in your editing, the XSL becomes invalid and Word will not load it.

I've tried restarting word without success.
I do suspect that something is being altered by expression web or frontpage
which are the programs I use to edit the style sheets copied from the office
bib style. I've tried changing only the name of the file and the names within
the style sheet. For example I copied the chicago style. replace all
"chicago" within the document to mychicago and saved it with same name, no
other changes made and word doesn't recognize that it is in the bib style
folder.
