Bibliography Bookmarks

I have a custom referencing style that uses hyperlinks for the references.

It seems to do this by creating bookmarks at each entry in the bibliography.

However these bookmarks are lost if I update the bibliography field. They
will then re-appear if I re-select the referencing style in the referencing
menu.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening and a way around it?

Thanks

Try updating the bibliography field once more (so 2 times in total). That
should do the trick as well.

As to why the bookmarks are disappearing? Word adds the new bibliography
first (including the bookmarks) after which it removes all traces (including
the bookmarks) of the old one. The bookmarks of both versions are the same,
so the new ones get removed as Word thinks they are still the old ones.

You can see this behaviour at work by creating a document with two in-text
citations and a bibliography. After you inserted the bibliography, go to the
bookmark dialog (Insert -> Bookmark) and delete one of the bookmarks. Now
update your bibliography. Check the bookmarks again. You will see that the
bookmark you deleted will be back while the one you left is gone. Each time
you will update the bibliography, the bookmarks will switch, but you will
never get them both back until you remove the bookmark that is left and do a
field update.

Updating the field twice solves the issue as on the first update all
bookmarks will be removed while on the second update they will be added
again.
