Beaware of updating zone alarm to zone alarm 5. There are currently several
problems.
1. Chkdsk /f upon reboot no longer performs therefore you can not correct
disk problems.
2. Norton antivirus email scan no longer works.

The many problems with ZA 5 seems to manifest itself in different ways under
different computer configuration.

I have 4 different problems with it, one of which, has not ever been
mentioned in their forums. Seeing as how the problem exists after a clean
install, before any service packs or any other software is installed, I can
only think that it is an interaction with my M/B chipset.

I have ZA 5 free and Norton Anti-Virus 2004, without any problems.

Always run the latest chipset drivers and other drivers.

None of the problems that you state occurred here. Everything is working
normally.

Ive just been to their forum - it seems there is a problem - I also ran V5
latest updates etc. Had a seperate problem and went to recover & repair XP
Pro - and now can't boot up at all get chckdsk/F error message and stops.
While running XP had no problems with the program just when I tried to
repair another problem this has happened. Coincidence????? I don't know but
have not had a previous problem like this, so I feel it's linked!!!

HOLD OFF on ZAP5!!!!

I had the CHKDSK problem, too. Also, at times right-clicking an icon
took 30 seconds to bring up the menu, then go back to norm, like a
Trojan that hides when it sees input activity.

I have also found myself online unexpectedly after boot-up.

I have XP home, Norton's 2003, MailwasherPro, Zone labs Pest Patrol,
PentiumIV, 2.8GHZ, 1GB ram and on-board ethernet for DSL, netgear card
for connection via hub to my backup server.

I uninstalled ZoneAlarmPro 5, reinstalled 4.5.594 and everything is
running fine.

ZoneAlarm's page FAQ's have a link to download 4.5, I didn't try it as
I still had it in my downloads directory.

Hope this add'tl info helps.

HEY Zone Labs, are you listening? I don't like chatting with robots!!
Get human help - get those profiteers out of there and go back to
being a product manufacturer, because if you don't, you'll see some
other firewall maker become predominant. Don't ENRON yourself!!
