Better file manager for Win2K??

M

Madra Rua

I am fed up of the Win2K Explorer. Every time I open it, I have to go to
View | Arrange icons to get the file names off one another.

There must be something better.

What options are there?

My search didn't bring up many.

TIA

Rua

You should be able to change the settings in Explorer to whatever you
want and then save them for all folders. Tools / Folder Options / View
Tab make sure the current view is the one you want and then clik the
button that sets allfolders to the current view.

I know how to do what you describe but that doesn't help many file names on
top of one another, when I open the folder. It's probably no more than about
10-15% of the files but it's a pain if I'm looking for one that's
underneath.

Not sure I understand. If you make the default view DETAILS rather than
ICON you should always be able to see the names of all the files. Did
I miss something here?

It sounds to me like your Windows settings are off, something like
what you described happened to me when I changed the spacing in my
Windows preferences. Display, Settings, Appearance, and then I believe
it was the Icon settings that I changed which made the difference. I
changed them back but I don't remember now what it was...

Yes there is......I agree with you......It definately blows!!!!!
I've been telling everyone to quit using it and start using
Power Desk by V-Com (formerly Ontrack). This reminds me of the old DOS
X-Tree Gold. Click on the free trial button.
Go to: http://www.v-com.com/product/pd_ind.html
This file manager works on all platforms of windoze starting with
windoze 98

Iuse powerdesk as well and have for the last 3 or 4 yrs. I purchased the pro
version. It is definitely worth the dough. Or you could buy fix-it utilities
and get powerdesk w/it.

Peace,
Pilgrim
