beta
Used in software publishing, "beta" is the name given to a pre-release
version of a software product.

This beta version is used for testing purposes, is often problematic and
thus only available to specific users who are encouraged to provide feedback
for improvement.

Beta versions are commonly found on company websites and can be downloaded.

Many include expiration dates to eliminate proliferation of flawed software.

I hope this post is helpful.

One other comment about Beta.
This applies to any type of Beta from any manufacturer.
Since it is a program still in development and testing, there are more
possibilities of something going wrong.
There is often little or no support for problems regardless the cause of the
problem.
Generally do not install anything Beta unless you are prepared for data loss
and/or other problems that may force a complete reinstallation of the
operating system.

But Frank did sum it up pretty well.
