Beta Anti-spyware problem?

I downloaded this program on the 12th. On the 19th I accepted Microsoft
updates and once the computer rebooted it started doing some sort of defrag
and is not recognizing certain files. (I am at work and not on my personal
computer). Can anyone get me out of this blue screen and into a way to
disable this program? Does a safe mode do this? I don't know anything about
computers so I don't know where to get to my computer since this defrag thing
it is doing NEVER completes the task. It always stops at 99%. Thank you for
your help.

Hello;

From work, Download and install Ccleªner (You can use a fllopy)
http://www.ccleaner.com/download124.asp

Reboot to Safe Mode

Please ensure you are doing this under a Administrator accºunt

Clear prefetch files by going to Start menu and Run and typing

prefetch

and then click OK.

Prefetch files are there to help programs load/open quicker but they will be
replaced in prefetch when they are used agªin.
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

Delete Cookies and Temp Files.
Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to
Start and Run and type

%temp%

and clear that fºlder.

Download and install Ccleªner
http://www.ccleaner.com/download124.asp

Open Ccleaner and press "Run Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and then
press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders.
eg: c:\temp, c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local
Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will change depending on your
name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for
mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectories).

Now run Defrag

Reboot

Downloaded Ccleaner to disk. I am at home and tried to start coputer under
F8. No matter what choice I make, I get the same result. A long list of
words, with the drivers and sys abbreviations. e.g.
multi(0)rddisk(0)partition(1)/WINDOWNS\System32\DRIVERS\PCIDEX.sys. I can
get to no other command or prompt or anything. No where is a start or run or
any other option. It just boots up to the blue screen, says it doesn't
recognize windows and is checking file system on c: the type of the file
system is FAT32. one of your disks needs to be checked for consistence. you
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommende that you
continue.... etc.

Hello zag;

Do you play games??

Do you rip divx on the fly

Do you use mcafee virus scanner ???

Do you have upgraded your computer??
Attempt to exchange or replace hardware in the computer, like
RAM / CPU / NIC

If i was forced to make a disgnosis, i would say it was an IRQ problem, Or a
DirectX problem..

Though i could be completely wrong

Bad memory can drive you frikken nuts. It will mask itself as a hundred

I do play Yahoo Mahgongg, but don't go to the sites that are notorious for
spyware, etc. I do not download anything. I got this computer in March and
even tho it has the capibility to burn CD, DVD, whatever, I have never done
it because I don't have a need... or desire. I have added nothing to the
computer, it was brand new. The only thing different is that I trusted
Microsoft... and listened to my sister. Thanks for trying. Actually I think
Macfee came with it, but was never active because it seemed to be a trial.
That is why I was going to use the Microsoft anti-virus. My fault for not
reading up on it.

Hi zag;

Well, now you have something to read with the links I give you.

Is your guaranty up???

I don't know if Microsoft have the anti-virus to the public, remember this
is a Anti-Spyware. Microsoft have a Windows One Care (WOC) service. For info
see

XP Home. Finally got my nerve up and called the company. This was a QVC
bundle package my boyfriend purchased for me in March. They tried the F8 and
F4 options with me over the phone then sent me to the hardware techs. They
are sending out a new drive with the technician to replace it, 7-10 working
days. Thanks for your help. Maybe they know of problems with these 'puters
and expected to replace some. zag
