Best way to transfer files from Netware to Microsoft

I am responsible for migrating NDS and related data over to Active directory
based environment. Specifically the data needs to transferred from a stand
alone Netware 5 sp6a server to a Microsoft Windows 2003 cluster.

Reading through the forums it looks like the consensus for a program for
this move is MSDSS. Are there any recommendations for any other kind of
program or any othere documentation that would come in handy for a move of
this sort?

Thanks.

All depends on what you need to do exactly. If it's purely data you're
interested in and not trustee rights, my vote would be to backup (with
decompression of compressed files turned on in the backup if using
compression on the server) & restore is easiest, due to the least amount
of time you physically spend there. I generally do a full backup
overnight, then the next morning restore that to the Windows box, then
perform an incremental backup/restore.

If it's less than 20 Gb, just copy it using explorer...

If you need trustee rights to carry across (along with the user accounts
of course), MSDSS is probably your easiest solution.

Stephen,
Thanks for the quick reply.

Are there any major gotchas with MSDSS??

Sabir.

Run a full NDS health check before installing MSDSS, else I've seen
where in a 2-way sync scenario ALL users being deleted from both AD &
NDS - That wasn't fun!

Purely from a process perspective try to have 1 point of administration
for both NDS & AD.

I've heard about password sync problems in a few ng's here but I think
most of these came down to not being patient.

That's about it.

Good luck.
