What is the best newsreader.. one that can show me all the details of the
other people who are posting?

Hi Kenny,

In Outlook Express right click on a message and select Properties -
Details tab - Message Source to view the header information.

Hello Bert,
thank for your quick reply...

I know about that feature.. but some people say that there are better
newreaders
that have more options (some say forte)... but I have not tested them,
thats why I am asking... I am looking for something as advanced as can be,
but
userfriendly also.

Most Newsreaders can do what you want to do. I use Netscape/Mozilla 4.8
(very archaic version) but I like it.

OE is also very good which I use for my free hotmail accounts. I am one
of those who are lucky to have free downloads of hotmail messages. New
users are required to pay a subscription. thank you Microsoft for this
service.

Best regards,

"Best" is always a personal opinion. Try a few to see which one you like. I
have used several through the years and like each one for different
reasons.

I use the paid version of Forte Agent however I prefer version 2. They just
upgraded to version 3 which I find very confusing. It can be confusing to set
up the options but once done it works very well. The paid version decodes
Yenc files. They have a free version - give it a try.

I would highly recommend slrn. Although it is a Unix program, there
is a Windows port available. A google search should turn it up for you.

In Roger Blake <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Heh. An old MIT app...

Moved to a new page:

The slrn newsreader / Home:

Not too bad but the last build I used (back when I was still using *NIX) was
probably not in the category of user friendly for most people.

I highly recommend either Outlook Express though I also hear that
Thunderbird's really nice these days.

No-one can say what is the best newsreader because we all have
different requirements in what we want in a newsreader.

My choice is Agent.

I use Forté Agent and "Agent 3.1 · Build 783" is available for
download from http://www.forteinc.com/agent/download.php

You can download Agent for a 30 day free trial from the above address
and if you have any questions or need help, go to the newsgroup
<alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent> where help is readably
available from other Agent users.

On 12-Oct-05 Agent 3.2 which is expected to have many new features was
released to Beta http://www.forteinc.com/news/

Agent can be modified and help is available from the newsgroup
<alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent.modified>

Do you all like windows 3.1 too for its lightning speed performance?

When I upgraded my ram to a whopping 16MB I had the fastest Win 3.1 on
the block.

What's 'best' for you may be useless to me and vice versa. Without
specifying the features that are important to you it's impossible to make a
recommendation short of what I currently use, which is Xnews.

Gravity seems quite configurable. If you subscribe to zetnet, you can
get zimacs, the connoisseur 's newsreader
