Can someone suggest some useful newsreader? I know Forte a little but - are
there any other good options?

There are many good options, and almost everyone has his favorite. When you
ask a question like this, the result is that somebody will come along and
tell you that Choice A is great, and anybody who uses Choice B is an idiot.
Then someone else tells you that Choice B is better than Choice A, and
you're an idiot for using Choice A. And so on.

Many people, for example example, will tell you that Outlook Express is
terrible and Forte Agent (or whatever they prefer) is a much better choice.
However I used to use to use Agent and liked it all right, but switched to
Outlook Express because I liked it better.

The most important thing here is that all of the available choices are
better in some respects than in others, and which choice is better for *you*
depends on what you do, how you work, and which features you use. As a
single example of this, Outlook Express is one of the very worst choices if
you do binary newsgroups, but that deficiency doesn't bother me at all
because I don't do binary newsgroups.

So what I recommend is that you ignore everyone else's view of which is best
(including mine) and try them all (or most of the better-known ones) for
yourself to see which best meets *your* needs. Fortunately this is very easy
with newsreaders, because almost all of them are freeware or shareware.

Thanks for opinion. I'm just considering to switch from OE completely to
another mail gadget (part of Chaos Intellect) and looking for alternative
for newsgroups (not binaries, of course, I'm not into XXX that is mostly on
binaries, I guess).

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Note that changing E-mail clients away from Outlook Express doesn't mean you
have to also stop using it for newsgroups. I use Outlook Express as my
newsreader, but Outlook for my E-mail client and prsonal information
manager.

By all means try other newsreaders if you'd like to, and choose another one
if you find you like it better. But don't stop using Outlook Express for
newsgroups just because you stop using it for E-mail.

(not binaries, of course, I'm
not into XXX that is mostly on binaries, I guess).

X-rated pictures are only one kind of binaries. There are also other kinds
of pictures, music files, etc.

But I don't do any of them.

I also like Thunderbird, have used Forte, OE, etc...

I agree with the poster that says they pretty much all work. Try one
and see what feels comfortable for your needs.

Why are you starting a new thread for this Ken? I know some people do this

No, I didn't start a new thread. I just replied to Marek's message, and I
just checked in Googlegroups to be sure. My message appears properly
threaded

Why did you think I started a new thread?

OK, sorry about that. The problem was from my side. Outlook downloaded all
the message but not the main one. I even searched for the message with the
same subject but because it is not downloaded, it cannot find it. After
sending the message and clicking Get Next Headers, it was there. Sorry,
again.

You have already been advised on newsreaders, but IMHO it is having a
reliable newsserver that counts the most.
