Ubuntu is free, no cost.

No need.

Huh? No need.

I don't get MS Office docs like that.

LOL! My ISP does support Linux. I'm in Europe, remember? Besides, Ubuntu
had no problem connecting to my cable connection.

I have a NAT hardware firewall.

Yawn.

I did not see the OP volunteer any of this information, why do you
ASSume these things on his behalf and then nag Alias about it? Why
don't you ask the OP yourself?

Sheesh!

To both of you: Read the OP's post again:

I'm CEO of a small company and for now still do the IT myself. I need it to
work. I need no bugs, no freezes, no time wasted nursing it, and, uh, no
viruses.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

So it appears that the OP is the CEO of a company that has
solutions/infrastructure based on the Windows platform and apps - so,
provide a cost effective solution for the OP's request.

Clearly the remark in IE7 points toward MS platform...
same with the Norton remarks,
same with the Kaspersky remarks
same with the F-Secure remarks

I would conclued a Windows platform from the OP's mail.

same with the Norton remarks,

Symantec has AV for linux:

same with the Kaspersky remarks

Kaspersky has AV for linux:
http://usa.kaspersky.com/store/business-optimal.php
same with the F-Secure remarks

Same with F-Secure, they have AV for linux too:

I would conclued a Windows platform from the OP's mail.

Then stop jumping to conclusions, sheesh!
