Best 19" Monitor?

N

Nigel Thomas

Dear all,

I have a 14" KFC monitor (didn't know KFC did electronics!) (~ 13" viewable)
at the moment,

and I think its about time I upgraded! I decided against TFT because the
technology is still new

and there are still some bugs that need ironing out, like colour range,
response time, DVI standard

etc.

I would like your opinion on a decent 19" CRT for me ( budget ~£300), I have
compiled a list of

"good" monitors please feel free to coment on it, or add to it.

NEC MultiSync FP912SB

Spec:

.. 18-inch viewing area and .24mm pitch
.. 1920 by 1440 resolution at 70 Hz refresh rate
.. Up to 102-Hz refresh rate at 1280 by 1024
.. Three-year warranty

.. Flat Diamondtron aperture grille tube

Samsung SyncMaster 957mb

Spec:

.. 18-inch viewing area and .24mm pitch
.. 1756 by 1317 resolution at 70 Hz refresh rate
.. Up to 89-Hz refresh rate at 1280 by 1024
.. Three-year warranty
.. Flat shadow mask tube

Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454

Spec:

.. 18-inch viewing area and .24mm pitch
.. 2,048 x 1,536 @ 80
.. Up to 89-Hz refresh rate at 1280 by 1024

.. Three-year warranty

..Flat aperture grille (Diamondtron M2)

I am bit concerned about the thin line see on Trinitron based technology
ie.(Diamondtron). Thats why I am partial

toward Shadow mask technololgy.

Any advice will be appreciated,

Nigel.

belinea 10 60 55 - 19" *totally* flat screen.

running 2048x1024 @ 85hz.

OSD could be a bit easier (poxy scroll wheel) but for the ammount i use OSD,
then not a problem.

had for 5-6months now and it's 100% perfect.

£200+P&P from dabs.com

Hi Nigel,
I have a NEC MultiSync FE21111-sb that has served very well. It was an
exceptional value (I bought it from Newegg). I came very close to
buying an LCD but for my purposes a CRT is a better match for me. I
also have had a Sony 19" that has been used since 1997. I am amazed at
how it's held up after countless hours of use. It too has been a
tremendous value and is still in great shape (my children use it for
their game machine so it gets more use now than ever). Good luck in
your search. Hope this helps.

I have a MAG 19" Monitor. It has been great so far. They only have a
1 year warranty though. It is a normal CRT not Flat. So far it has
been doing great.

Nigel, don't omit ViewSonic from consideration. The G90F is a really good CRT
monitor. The black version (G90F+B) appears to be available on line from Wstore
in the UK at £165.61 excluding VAT.

Here is the ViewSonic UK site:

Thanks for all your advice,

I have decided to buy the Diamond Pro 930SB (similar to the NEC MultiSync
FP912SB in spec) . I hope it is good! I'll keep you posted.

Dear all,

Here a list of sites I found particularly useful in my quest of the right
19" monitor.

This one is very comprehensive and gives a gr8 info. on Crt technology.
http://tinyurl.com/3xlmz

This one is one of those Gems on the web it was very simple and useful,
good info on refresh rates and resolution.
http://tinyurl.com/2tz96

An unexpected source of wisdom was the PC World website, good list of
monitors and their recommendation on what the best 19"
http://tinyurl.com/2vcf4

There are many many more but most of what is covered on the few mentioned
above
best way to find out is through notice boards! as well as trust oll` Google.

Awhile back I researched this and came up with the Hitachi CM-771. Flat
screen. Small spot size, high intensity, reliable. But a tad pricey.
Highly rated everywhere I looked.

I have that monitor and like it mostly because it is true flat. I sold my
751 to my sister for half what I paid and when I see it, I am shocked by how
much better it looks than my 771. That 751 was one great looking monitor!
