Before logon screen appears, blue flash -- redeaux

Problem:

brief flash of blue before custom login screen,
when switching users in XP.

This is a continuation of a couple threads:

two started by Anthony J. Dellarte Jr.

Power Blue Flash Before "Welcome Screen"

Blue Flash Before Welcome/Login Screen
<#[email protected]>

and another in a neowin forum:

Before logon screen apears, blue flash
www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t341580.html

I've tried the following:

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors] Background = 0 0 0

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoWelcomeScreen"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PowerOffActive"="0"

x-setup pro settings:
"startup/shutdown"\startup\Windows\"30)Before Login
Window"\"Background: Color" = Black

I've also used Filemon.exe and Regmon.exe to trap events when I start
the "Switch-User" session, with a focus on winlogon.exe and
LogonuiX.exe -- but no luck. Perhaps the color is embedded in a DLL?
What needs to be patched?

So here are my questions:

Have any of you directly experienced a switch to a logon screen without
the blue flash (remember this is not the classic login, which is fixed
by the regkey background)? Are you using a logon manager? What files
does it replace? In other words: what do I need to patch to remove the
blue flash?

Many thanks!

Why is that a problem?
Is it freezing or damaging something?
My guess would be that Windows is loading the driver/settings for the new
user.
When the driver is loaded, it will do that, just like during a reboot.

Merely freezing and damaging my eyes ;-)

The point behind a custom Logon and Theme, in the first place, is to
improve the user experience. I've setup a black background for logon
and user screens -- with a small color graphic as a reference point.
But hitting WindowsKey-L to switch users produces a jarring blue flash.
Veeery klunky.
