1. I just bought Win XP Home Edition but before installing
I want to make a backup copy of the CD, something I always
have done with new software. When I tried to do that with
my CD Copier (Adaptec) it does not seem to have happened.
Can you help, please?

2. My intention is to install the XP Home Ed. on a machine
now running Win 98SE. If after installing I prefer to go
back to 98SE can I uninstall XP and revert, w/out
problems, losing data, etc.?

Thanak you.

Greetings --

1) Sounds like a job for Roxio's (they bought and renamed
Adaptec's EasyCD years ago) tech support.

2) If you perform an upgrade from Win98/Me, elect to backup the
old system files, and don't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

Make sure that your hardware is adequate (especially in having *more*
than the recommended 128MB RAM) before setting out. Read Gary
Woodruff's article on upgrading to XP at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpupgrad.htm.

Then when you run the upgrade, take the option to back up system files.
that will result in their being an item in Add/Remove Programs to
'Uninstall Windows' which will allow you to revert to things just as
they are at the time of upgrade (including removing installations of
software made since, apart from the programs' own folders)
