bci-6 cyan vs. photo cyan??

I have a Canon Pixma ip4000 photo printer.

The cartridges haave always included:

BCI-6M (magenta) amd
BCI-6C (Cyan)

In looking to buy replacement cartridges I now see the above but also BCI-6
photo magenta and BCI-6 photo cyan.

I am confused. Which ones do I get?? What is the difference?

You get the 6M and 6C as that is what your printer calls for.
The 6PM and 6PC are designed for other models and have a different density
than yours.
Using them would cause a quite noticeable degradation in image quality due
to color shift.

Thanks. The reason I got confused is that I see a number of sales on EBAY
and they have 6 cartridges, including the photo ones (+ the ones I use)

The S4500 I have uses six cartridges for photo quality.

It has two "heads" and for normal use one "head" is loaded with black and
the other has three colours - yellow, magenta and cyan.

For photo quality the black "head" is replaced with a different one
containing photo black, photo cyan and photo magenta. The latter, as far
as I can determine, being "lighter" formulations to allow the printing of
more delicate shades of colour.

Make sure you buy Canon carts. The proper names are in the driver
window. All are BCI6 + the letter C, Y, M or K. The pigmented black
are BCI3E carts.

That must be the generics that will clog your printhead and produce
lower quality fadable photos.
