BCI-3e AND BCI-6

Can the BCI-3e cartridges be used in a Canon printer that uses the BCI-6
cartridges? They look exactly the same. Is there a difference in the
cartridges?

Can ink previously purchased for the BCI-3e cartridges be used to refill
the BCI-6 cartridges? Is there a difference in the inks?

Not really I'd sa
The BCI-3 is a pigment ink and the other BCI-6 is a dye ink, in th
ip4000 and ip5000 the pigment BC-3 is used for text and is a large
tank compared to the dye BCI-6 which are smaller tanks for thes
printers

It's not as cut and dry as all that. While it's true the bci-3e is a
big black pigment tank, the bci-3e also came in chromalife color dye.
I know bci-6 color bulk ink is often sold as being compatable with the
bci-3e color, but I honestly don't know the difference, as in can
someone go to office depot and buy bci-3e and shove it in their bci-6
without noticable color change and without harm to the heads.

BCI3 and BCI6 color inks are identical, as are the tanks.
BCI6 black is not the same as BCI3 black, and they should not be mixed.

My research indicates that they are different formulations, athough surely
dye (Canon supposedly uses dye for color on all printers) It could be that
the BCI6 uses Chromalife inks, while the BCI3e is not.

Are you referring to the black inks only? I was aware of these
differences between the BCI-3 and-6 as far as the blacks, but....are you
saying the BCI-3 color inks are also pigment-type?

It could be that the BCI6 uses Chromalife inks, while the BCI3e is not.

Pretty sure the bci3e is chromalife, as well as bci6, as in using a
fancy buzz word to say both tanks use dye with chrome particals in
them. But how they are different I have no idea.

No it isn't, it's what came with my iP4000. I
find this whole discussion sophomoric. And this
thread is a morass of misinformation. Go to the
Canon site and you will find that Chromalife inks
start with CL, CLI or are BCI-16.

I'm thinking the Chromalife series started with the i450/i550 and the
bci-3e and bci-24 inks. IIRC this is the first time they claimed
lightfastness for 25 years which is the same figure for the ip4000 with
bci-6 inks. AFAIK the name "Chromalife" refers to chrome particles".

Now what you're talking about is Chromalife100, the new series, which
you also need to add BCI-7 which are also
Chromalife(クロマライフ)100.

Yep I'm talking about the Chromalife100. I wasn't
aware there was an earlier Chromalife ink.

I've seen it referenced here and there but to be honest i'm finding it
hard to backup my claim. It would make perfect sense, current
generation Chromalife100 vs the older generation being called
Chromalife without a number attached... and the increased lightfastness
of the bci-3e ink vs the older bci-3 ink.
