Canon BJC-6200 ink tanks cross contamination

Darren

Hi

I've got a Canon BJC-6200. I always use genuine inks. My ink is dancing
between the tanks and they're all polluting one another.

I've tried to clean the print head and purchased another set of inks,
experiencing the same problem.

I'd like not to purchase another printer, despite their cheap prices for
some low end models.

I can purchase a print head for about 70 or 80 $AU. The question is will
this be more good money after bad?

Thanks

Darren

My ink tanks are:

BC-30 Black(BCI-3Bk)
BC-31 Cyan(BCI-3C), Magenta(BCI-3M), Yellow(BCI-3Y) - mixed together!!!

Welcome to the club! I have an i850 and have the same problem. I've
talked to Canon about this - they say I need a new printhead. I do
believe this to be part at fault as well. I took apart my 850 and
looked over the pump hoses, and parking area and could find nothing to
blame there. I have even taken apart the print head - there's not much
to it: the plastic carrier (with rubber washers that seal against the
bottom of the tanks), the ceramic like square that is the printhead, a
rubber grommet/washer with multiple holes, the ribbon cable, and 2
screws that hold the printhead to the carrier. The rubber
grommet/washer goes between print head and the carrier - which part is
actually failing I'm not sure. I've read posts from several others who
have replaced the printhead and all was fine.

I opted for a new printer, the closest replacement was the ip3000 (4
color tanks), it was $80 from Amazon. A new printhead for me was $52,
this way I get a new printhead, new tanks, and a new warranty.

No doubt you'll fix the main problem by doing this.

I've had to replace BCI-31 and BCI-32 heads three times so far (my 4th
and final replacements have been ordered), which altogether cost much
more than our 6200 printer did originally. Three of the six cartridge
replacements have been caused by the printer suddenly refusing to
recognise a cartridge ("no cartridge fitted" error message), the rest
by ink cross contamination within the heads (but not from one tank
into the other, so far as I can tell).

The heads seem to be designed to fail quickly, as they only print
about 400 A4 sheets at around 10% coverage before failing (takes us
around six months). The cost per page is ridiculous.

If Canon don't make an obscene profit on their genuine ink, they'll
definitely do it with the cost of the heads. It's impossible to prove
Canon are doing it intentionally. We previously had an Epson Photo
700. The heads went 3 years before an unfixable clog killed the
Epson, but the cost per page was about what it should have been.

Do you shut down / close down the printer by means of the
on/off switch on the printer or do you just leave the printer
switched on and kill the power from at the mains plug ??, I ask this
'caise if this is what you do then you prevent the print head/s from
parking properly and the printer going through it's built in "close
down " routine whereupon you may well get cross contamination or ink
leakage into the printer case.

It has also been recommended that the printer is switched off
by means of its power button/switch but mains power left on to the
printer so that the built in maintainance prog can "look out for the
ink carts/print heads" and reduce excessive cleaning routines on
start up of the printer.

No doubt someone out there will tell me I'm wrong :).

I always turn the printer off by it's power button and allow the heads to
park.

I've just purchased another print head. It's a BC-31e.

In the print head instructions it mentions that the print head has just been
redesigned. (To make it more durable? Compatible with other printers?)

I have read a lot of reviews on the poor lifespan of canon print heads.
Fingers crossed.

I note that many people advise regular head cleans using the maintenance
software to avoid clogging and/or printing at least once a week.

Thanks very much to all that replied and their useful advice.
