Battery Power

I like the battery power saving option on my computer, but right now it's
annoying. I have to work in a computer lab, so I need to connect with my
internal network card, but when I'm not on AC power it's disabled. Also I
want my monitor to be bright because it's a dark room and I can barely see
it. How can I take these power saving options off? I have tried changing the
power scheme and looked in display to see if I could brighten the screen but
it doesn't help. What should I do to ignore the battery saver for now?
Thanks,

Most laptops have an applet that will let you alter the battery-saving
conditions. Failing that, you might look into the CMOS for an answser.
Also, laptops usually have a key function that lets you alter the screen
brightness -- my Sony Vaio has the 'Fn-F5' combination to bring up a
brightness adjustor.

Hi Sway,

Take a look in Control Panel for an alternate power management icon. My Toshiba has it's
own Power Management Utility which allows me to create different power management profiles
for AC Power and Batter Power. If the was wiped clean and Windows reinstalled this utility
may be missing. What's the make and model of the system?

Bert,

Thanks for your help so far. I am using a Dell Inspiron 6000 with XP Home
Edition. The power options on here is only for having the hard disk running
and having the monitor on. I can make new profiles for battery power, but
none that involve the network connection nor the screen brightness. I found
one way to turn on the network card after I'm running on battery power, but
still nothing about making the screen brighter. I haven't tried what HiBaller
said because I was afraid that it would apply to when I actually had it
plugged up as well. For example, since the battery saver is on, it may
increase the brightness all around and not just while it's in battery save
mode. Get the idea? I was just looking for a way to maybe "switch off" the
battery saver then switch it back on later because it is very helpful in some
instances, just not at the moment.

If it cant be adjusted in Power Option, try using the <Fn> and the up- or down-arrow key
on the keyboard to adjust brightness.
