On XP Pro SP2

I have created a LiveCD using the latest BartPE Builder.

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

I used the default builder and is working ok, but I find no
program Exit for a normal boot to XP...

Any links or suggestions?

What exactly do you mean with "program exit for a normal boot to XP"?

you may have to create a new one.

so that you can add utilities to the
pe which can be useful when the
operating system cannot.

for example, you should add the
driveimage xml pluggin to barts pe.

and also add a copy of the drive image
xml program to that disk

then burn it.

that way when you initiate the pe, you
will have the drive image utility available
to you so that you can restore your disk
images,

that is if you choose disk imaging as a
method to archive and restore your
computer data.

if you use the suggestion above, be sure
to destroy the old pe you built.

because cd's can become a confusing issue
when you are trying to restore your
system.

Quite simple. Finish what you are doing with the PE, remove the disk from
the drive and reboot the machine.

"The system can return to its previous operating system when the
computer
is rebooted without the LiveCD".

Command prompt is available, but entering exit I get no response...

That is the rub, as I have just started the PE build in basic mode.
It boots up to Bart's desktop with only a "Go" button on bottom.

If I remove the CD, then I have no access to command prompt
and Ctrl/Alt/Del does nothing in Ram drive...

I have no "Win Start" button or status bar.(working on adding this)

BartPE is like a Linux Live version and you can kill the power without
properly shutting down. So you can pull the plug if you want too, since
it is all in RAM anyway. But there under BartPE a start button and there
is an option to shutdown or to reboot if you want too.

But if you remove the CD will shutdown or to reboot still work?

Pappy,
On my BartPE I click on the GO button and at the bottom of the list are
two items that are available: Restart & shutdown. The only thing that
some livecds provide that Bart doesn't is an eject option during
shutdown. So depending on your boot sequence and whether you selected
the Boot from CD message in Bart plugins it may reboot automatically
from the CD.

So how do you escape the BartPE?
Did you find or build your own "eject option during shutdown" plugin?

You escape the PE by removing it from the drive and either pressing the
"reset" button on the front of the computer, or holding the power button in
until the machine shuts down.

No, I believe it will ask you to insert the disc again to shutdown. But
you really don't have to shutdown properly anyway. As BartPE loads
itself in RAM and doesn't write to the drive anyway. So just eject the
CD and kill the power.

Pappy,
I said other Livecd's like Knoppix & PCLinuxOS have a eject option
BARTPE does NOT.

But on the Plugin page make sure this option is selected "Boot Fix
(Enabling "Press any key to boot from CD") will pause the boot process
and make you make a decision as to whether you want to boot from the CD
or not.

Jim

Oh, very cool. I didn't know about this! I'm going to redo my Bart PE. This
should fix up "gram pappy" just fine. Thanks for that tip.

Yes I went Googling and found this old forum post that better describes
the Boot Fix:

http://www.msfn.org/board/script-startup-bartpe-t72356.html&mode=linear
MSN Forum: indy dba Apr 26 2006, Post #19

In PEBuilder there is a plug-in for this called "Boot Fix(Enabling
"Press any key to boot from CD")"

If you enable this plug-in then when the PC boots from the BartPE CD you
will see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message for like 3 seconds
and if you DON'T press a key the PC will go looking to boot from the
next device according to the BIOS boot order. BartPE would not
automatically startup on the reboot after the mini-setup is complete.

Bart needs to update his Help file...

Thanks everyone, I think this will fix me up...
