Banner Ad Component - Java Applet

G

Guest

I don't understand. We are told not to use the banner ad component in FP
2002 because it won't work on an XP or 2000.

I have an XP Professional at work on which I created a website which uses
the banner ad component. I have an XP Home at home.

The Banner ad works on both. The Java could be installed on the one at
work, but I know it is NOT installed on the one at home.

What is the explanation?

You need to look again at the machine in question. Without JAVA being
installed, the applet won't work. Look in your Control Panel to see if Sun
Java is installed.

I Clicked on "Control Panel", then on Add or "Remove Programs", neither Sun
nor Java were listed among the programs installed. Where else would I look?

Thanks

It should show up as a coffee cup icon in Control Panel

No coffee cup.

I am asking about it because I want to keep using the component. People
keep saying, "Don't use it." I'm wondering if I'm getting correct
information. And if JVM is on my computer, I want to know where it is.
Also, I want to understand everything. If there is some reason it is working
without JVM, I want to know why.

Thanks.

Look to see if there is a JVM listed in IE, Internet Options | Advanced.
The JAVA Banner Ad Component will not work without JAVA.
If you are in fact using the JAVA Banner Ad component.

Post the URL for the website. Maybe you're using something else.

Dunno if JAVA can run without the JAVA Control Panel (the coffee cup thing),
so you could also search your hd for java*.exe. Then again maybe you have a
copy of the old MS java on your home machine (I can't remember if MS's
version had any visible control).

But, for sure, java applets cannot run without JVM.

It depends on which release of Windows XP you have installed. Windows 2000 has the JVM, so Java
applets should always work, unless it has been disabled by the user/company of the machine
