Bad print with XP and Lexmark 4270

I'm using a Lexmark 4270 with a new Dell Dimension C521 running XP.
Anything printed on this printer is a mess, whether color or b/w.
There is the recognizable document visible, but the print is covered
with lines, blocks, misaligned image layers, etc.

I have uninstalled the software several times, using the Windows
Install Clean Up Utility even. I have re-installed several times from
the disc and from Lexmark's downloaded driver & software files, but the
problem remains.

Scan and copy funtions are fine. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I just got off the tech support chat with Stephen at Lexmark.
He COMPLETELY SOLVED my problem, and I do believe that the solution
will work for many of the complaints of this nature that I've seen
regarding bad prints on lexmark devices with windows XP.

A particular kind of USB hub was included with the printer I purchased.
At the time I was using an older computer with W-2000. I put it in a
drawer and never thought about it again. But apparently this hub
solves all kinds of "Communication with Printer' problems that XP has
with Lexmark printers. Without uninstalling or re-installing the
software, I simply put this hub in between the printer and the (newer)
computer. Viola! The prints are just fine now.

The hub provided does not have a brand name, and it looks quite cheap
to be honest, but its model is US9 and the serial number is N06A07047.
Stephen offered to send me one for free, he may do the same for you.
He says other hubs won't solve the problems. He also says it does not
have anything to do with the speed of the cable. Kudos to Stephen

(I must say, though, that Stephen was the fourth Lexmark tech support
person I chatted with; none of the others thought of this.)
