Bad Blocks

Hello:

I have a question about bad blocks on a cd rom drive.

I noticed in event viewer that I have bad blocks on cdr disks. This not only
happens from cd's burnt on my machine but on others as well.

There has never been a problem running and retriving data from one of these
cd's. As a matter of fact the only time you even get this error message is
if you have a cdr in the cd rom drive at boot up. I believe what is
happening is windows is looking at the disk in a mannner and looking for
something that is never used on cdr's.

I have confirmed that the cd's are just fine because I have a program that
will do a complete file to file comparison not just a properties comparison
but a bit by bit comparison. The cd's always come up clean.

Was hopeing someone could shed some light on this and let me know why these
messages appear.

Thanks for your help,
Vince

Hi Vince,

Bad blocks may indicate a faulty ide cable (or not fully seated), a faulty
drive, or a problem on the motherboard. It is likely not related to the
disks themselves.

Thanks

I will assume maybe the drive itself. I only have this issue when a burned
cd is sitting in the cdr drive not the cdrw drive which is on the same IDE
Cable.
