Backups

In WinXP, if I have enough disk space, is a backup simply a matter of
copying my Windows & Program Files folders or is it more complex than that?

You actually decide what to backup. In most cases, you don't need to backup
the Operating System files etc. Personal data such as office documents,
email messages, address book etc are to be backed up.

OTOH, if you plan to backup the entire partition, consider using one of
