I'm trying to drag and drop files (my docs, palm, quickbooks, etc) onto a
blank cd-r but when the backup wizard asks if I want to write the files it
gives me an error message indicating the cd is already full. Is there some
new backup procedure for XP that I missed?

What software are you using for this backup? Is it the backup program that
comes with XP, ntbackup? If so know that ntbackup cannot backup to CD or
DVD. It can write to a single CD if there is 3rd party packet writing
software installed, but it can't span CDs. If you are using some other
backup program please provide more info such as the name of the program and
how you are using it.
