Hi All,

Recently I bought a new laptop. It is a SONY VAIO and already came with a
Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.

At least for 1GB of RAM memory, this Windows Version looks as a slow
operation system.
The Duo 2 Processor is not sufficient to leave this operation system running
as I would hope.

So, as the windows is an original software, I'd like to save a full image
before to go for a new OS.

this laptop came with a partition disk with about 7GB that I believe
contains the parts of system that can be used for a restore in the future.

How could I do a full backup for all current operation system in order to do
a possibly restore in the future?

I'd like to install the Windows 2003 Server, that one is the best for my job.

Thanks in advantage!

PS: Where can I find informations about that?

I also have a VAIO. 1st make a recovery disc set as per Sony instructions.
This will allow a complete reinstall of all original software and restore
the computer to as new even on a reformatted or new hard drive. Also in the
recovery disc set when it is run you will have the option to reinstall any
of the specific software programs that came with the computer. 2nd. In
Vista business, you can make a full image of the disk which will include the
hidden Sony partition. Not sure if this option is available in Home
Premium. However, I would heartily recommend getting Acronis True Image
version 10 to do exactly what you are asking to do. It is extremely easy to
use program and will give you the security you'll need to proceed. I've
done both, but I would definitely choose Acronis in any contest.

Just had a another thought right after I sent my last comment. Have you
considered adding another bank of memory chips? Boosting up to 2 gb should
make quite a difference.

Hello Mike,

firstly Thanks by your reply.

- the Windows Vista full backup is not available on the Home Premium verion;
- at least at this moment I can't add more memory (it will be possible later)

So, where can I get these instructions in order to make a recovery disc?

What do you think about "Acronis True Image" and "Symantec Ghost" ?
What's the best ?

Thank you very much!

"I think my last post wasn't processed"

On your computer look for to VAIO Help and Support or VAIO Recovery Center
(which is part of the VAIO Help and Support) It has instructions on making
the recovery disks. It takes two DVD's mike

Found it. Click on the Start Button. Click on Help and Support. This Help
and Support will go the Sony VAIO Help and Support Center. mike

I had posted the following note to tell you where to look but just noticed
that it never got processed.

Found it. Click on the Start Button. imediately to the right you'll see
Help and Support. A click on this Help
and Support will go the Sony VAIO Help and Support Center. mike
