I wish to back up my files before installing SP2, but the backup utility
wizard is not available on my pc. XP was preloaded and I do not have an
original disk. Can somebody please tell me how I can get the wizard installed.

You must have XP Home. The Backup utility is not installed by default on
Home, and if you don't have the CD, you won't have the install files for it.
Some OEM cds do not include it at all.

This means that you have another, possibly more significant issue: if you do
not have an install or restore CD, you have no simple way of rebuilding the
system should it seriously crash.

Personally, I'd find the \i386 folder and copy its contents to CD. then
make a bootable diskette with CD drivers so that in the event of failure you
can boot with the diskette, get to the CD and run winnt.exe, which is the XP
setup routine; from here you can try a repair install. If you do not have
this folder or a restore or install CD, I'd suggest getting a copy of the XP
CD from some legitimate source. This CD is bootable.

Purchasing systems without install media saves a few dollars but is really a
false economy.

I would suggest that you not bother with the XP backup utility that you
don't have anyway; it has some serious limitations and better apps are not
very expensive. You might have a look at Backup Plus.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on
XP Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the
CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by
doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
