Backup system

Just downloaded a patch. Now, am advised to "backup your
system".
Exactly what does that mean? -- Documents and Settings
folder, Program Files folder, any other programs stored on
the C:\ drive ????????????
Am going to use CD-R discs.
Where to find the Backup program?
Where does the automated backup fit in?
Thanks for your help.
 
This means copy everything on your computer that is important to you to
different media (i.e. CD-RW/Floppy/Any hard drive) Their are also full
backup programs avaliable such as Norton Ghost that doa full backup to an
image file.
