Hello All

I have used the Backup utility under Start>Programs>Accessories>System
tools>Backup to schedule a backup of a single file (an Access97 backend
files in fact) to a folder on another PC conected to the network. But
nothing happened!

When I look at the Job's properties I see:

C:\WINNT\system32\NTBACKUP.EXE backup "@C:\Documents and
Settings\administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data\test backup.bks" /a /d "Set created 02/03/2005 at 21:45"
/v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:blush:ff /m normal /j "test backup.job" /l:s /f
\\No2\PayeDoc programmes\Tuesday backends

Can anyone see anything wrong with this?
Hope someone can help.

Many thanks
Leslie Isaacs

There are three types of logs you need to examine:

- Windows event logger (eventvwr.exe)
- Task Scheduler logger (Control Panel / Task Scheduler / Advanced)
- Backup logger (look for backup*.log in the profiles folder)

Hello Pagasus

Thank you for your reply.

I think the problem is that I want to backup a selected file to a specified
folder, but when I come to specify the destination for the backup the system
seems to be expecting a file name - and, by default, a 'backup' (.bkf) file.
I don't seem to be able to specify a folder - but I'm sure that this should
be possible, and in fact that it was possible under previous Windows
versions. Is this correct?

If I do need to specify a backup (.bkf) file as the destination, how do I
create one in the first place?

Also, I want to schedule this backup job to take place daily, with each
occurrence being added to (not replacing) all the previous backups (so that,
if necessary, I can restore from any of them). As each backup would be
completed by the same 'job', they would obviously be added to the same
backup (.bkf) file: presumably, when I want to do a 'restore', I would be
presented with a list of all the backups in the whichever backup (.bkf) file
I specify?

I am very grateful for your help.
Les.

Use the backup wizard. It prompts you for a destination folder
and file name, e.g. "c:\MyBackup.bkf".
