Yeah, it is old but works well and I'm used to it. I do have a newer
version installed - 8.5 IIRC - so I may try it sometime and see if it does
the same. OTOH, feeding avast a serial is not a big chore...

True it isn't that big of a deal, but it bothers me that it didn't get
it right. I guess I am too picky. I too use Avast and I never had that
problem. And I use the following Paragon products.

Reading through all the comments posted in this thread, I sometimes wonder
if it would have been simpler to just let Navyguy continue backing up his
personal data the way he was already doing - IF that is only what he needs
or wants.  

Backing up and restoring your system using imaging or cloning is a nice
backup scheme, assuming you learn enough how to go about doing it (and any
caveats), beforehand.   But for those who just want to backup personal
documents, it's a bit overkill.

I appreciate everyone advice. I think what I will do is this; I'll
install one of the 160GB hd's, format it etc. and make sure the
computer reconizes it. Purchase Paragon and use that as my main backup
for my system in case I should need it. And I continue to use Nero to
backup individual files. I believe this is within my capabilities if
just take my time about it and I'll readup on it to refresh my
memeory. I have installed one before when I upgraded the system and
also added RAM. However, if I run into any issues I can always rely on
you to assist me with your excellent advice and its interesting to
note some of the side issues that pop up, so everyone learns.
