Recall when 98 came out . I backed up a ton of stuff on floppies on 3.1,
only to discover you couldn't restore it in 98.

Is the same thing going to happen when Vista displaces XP?

Dave

It was a lot smoother upgrading from 95 to 98, which may be a closer
analogy.

I would imagine that the file extension's will determine its compatibility
with Vista.
Also 64Bit or X86 compatibility issues will be a factor.

Gary

You need to use the Easy Transfer tool in Vista. A full backup made in XP
will not restore in Vista. The only kind of XP backup that would restore to
Vista would be just your files.

Yes, that is one way but not very convenient unless you grab a pretty high
level folder. Get the files off onto an external drive. You will not be
able to do that with programs, of course. You may have to move with
elevated permissions.

Another way is to get another drive, remove the Vista drive, load XP onto
the new drive, reinsert the Vista drive as a data drive and recover files
from it like any other data drive.

Thanks again Colin -

Well, I got the message. Guess we'll have to decide when the time comes.

Thx again
Dave
