This is the approach that I've had to use, but only on some documents.
Actually, I think that I'm dealing with two separate problems.
1. The temporary files grow in size consuming all of the RAM until I can no
longer save changes. - As you pointed out, periodically closing and
reopening the document usually gets around the problem, but the problem still
exists. It shouldn't be doing this, and only does this with a few documents.
2. The other problem that I have is that the file itself seems to grow
larger. A 300 KB document may grow to 10 MB and it will consume this much
harddrive space when I save it. Attempting to email or attach such large
files to other applications can be a problem, not to mention that the value
of a gigabyte is now more like a megabyte (sort of like the minutes on a
phone card).
I don't know if these two problems are related, because I'm not certain that
I always experience them at the same time. Right now, I have a haunted
document that is behaving badly in both ways.
