BACKUP FAILURE IN VISTA

W

Ward

There have been many posts about backup problems in Vista. I too was having
problems. I kept researching for answers and maybe the following will help
someone else with their problem.
I counld not get the backup to work properly. I kept getting BACKUP FAILED
messages.
I even reformatted the Hard Drive and then still ran into the problem.
I read all the treads, and saw numerous refernces to REGISTRY CLEANERS.
I like my 3B REGISTRY REPAIR PRO but trying to correct the backup problem, I
restalled the original registry. and then tried to Back Up.
Result. NO MORE BACKUP FAILURE.
I am 99% sure, that when a Registry Cleaner is used, It will interfere with
the Backup Program, thus generating the problems.
I suggest, that if you are going to use a registry cleaner, make sure you
back up the registry first before useing it so that you can reinstall the
original registry if things go wrong.

Better still, Don't use a registry cleaner at all. Registry cleaner cause
more problems than they actually solve, so leave well alone.

As for back-up's generally I personally prefer to use the third party
software Acronis True Image. Of course, it is not free, but it is far
superior to the Complete backup option in Vista Ultimate. As for the backup
option in Vista Home and Premium that is one backup option I would never use
or trust.

I wouldn't use a registry cleaner, period. They do nothing but cause
problems. There is nothing wrong with using a registry cleaner if you
understand the registry and then remove only the registry keys that need
removed. However, this can be done manually, which is my preferred method.
There is no need to clean your registry. The leftover keys and/or
subkeys from an uninstall will cause you no problems in most instances. In
the very few cases when one of these entries can cause a problem you should
edit the registry manually. If you don't have the knowledge to do this you
have no business editing the registry.

John, that surprises me. I use Acroni regularly as do most, if not all, of
the MVPs. I've never had any problems with it and I haven't heard any MVPs
complaining about it.
