I've read all the posts on backup failure but none address my error code. So
any help in what this means and how to fix?

I too am trying to backup to dvd+r and this error occurs after about 5
minutes. Try again repeats the error. Am using Vista Home Premium, File
Backup tool and requesting an initial full system backup on an HP Pavilion
9408nr (just purchased)

cannot find the sector requested. (0x8007001B)"

Help please.

If you do a Goggle with this search string:

"cannot find the sector requested (0x8007001B)" you'll get lots of
hits.

Now watch the fanboy crowd chant together it isn't Vista's fault, it's
not, no way, nada. <snicker>

Thank you, Adam, ANF (apparently no fanboy) lol

both threads offer no answers other than those who went to external hds and
gave up on the dvds. So i gues the fanboys are stumped.

If anyone knows or hears something new, please advise.

Jill, anything?

Good one.
If it wasn't for curse words...you'd have nothing but a strong right hand.

How can you possibly do a backup to a DVD?

A DVD holds what, 8 Gigs? Your hard drive is what, 300 Gigs?

Come on! This is an initial backup for a new computer. He's not backing up
to just one DVD and your 300 GB hard drive is hardly full when your computer
is brand new. However, I would advise that you remove all the free trial
software and "bonus" programs they glut your new computer with before backing
it up.
Also since you may be new to Vista realize that the usual backups you make
with Windows backup and restore only backup your personal files, pictures,
etc. They figure you have all the installation disks for your applications
(yeah, right) or were given a restore disk or have a backup in a partition on
your HD to replace the programs. I don't think anyone will ever accuse the
Vista developers of being practical.
