When I used to unplug my computer, the backlight of my screen dimmed to save
battery life. However now it does not do this and therefore the battery goes
pretty quick! I dont know why this has happeded or how I can go back, can you
help?!

It's normally setup via the BIOS. A certain key press at cold
start (DEL, F2) will access BIOS. Usually, most OEMs set
the "Display on Battery" at a 3-4 brightness out of maximum.

It really helps to know what the make and model of your laptop is. Have you
tried searching Google? The manufacturer's website? More suggestions on
finding the answer at http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
