Why Did My Laptop Completely Die?

I was surfing along on my nearly new Toshiba laptop when all of a sudden
the machine went completely dead. Harddrive lights were on but
everything else was dead. Power button wouldn't work, keys were dead,
nothing on the screen except the backlight. No error messages or text
of any kind. Couldn't do anything with it. Pulling the power cord
didn't help because it was powered by the battery. Pulled the power
cord and removed the battery, then reinstalled the battery, plugged the
power cord back in and started the machine and everything worked
normally. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened
to me in over 16 years of computer use.
Anyone have any ideas as to what caused this?

Send it to a technician to repair it... not much you can do with a laptop
anyway if it totally craps out.. send it off and ask them to tell you what
they fixed.

And you think this was caused by Windows XP how, exactly...? This group is
for general issues with Windows XP, and not miscellaneous, random hardware
faults. Contact the dealer or Toshiba. You have a warranty - use it!

There is a 'reset' button usually on the bottom of the case. Look in
your manual. You just hold it down for a few seconds and you reset the
machine. Happens all the time so remember the method,

Ask Toshiba. On other model laptops, this behavior is usually caused
by a power supply problem.
