Backing Up Updates?

Ok, I'm sure this has been asked many times..... I wish to back up the
windows xp updates that I download and have automatically installed....
I'm on DialUp and is a bitch to download all the updates when I do a
reinstall....I'm using XP PRO SP2 (all on one cd). There is about 40mb of
updates to ****ing download even after installing SP2...
Anyways, could someone tell me where on my harddrive (directory) these
updates are (EXE's), so as I can manually install them instead of
downloading.
Why doesn't windows update give you the option of saving these updates for
later manual install rather than force you to do an in stall right there?

3rd and last tip, Use disk imaging utilities to save images of your
system --- especially the Windows partition.
That way you do not start from ground zero.

Because the UPDATES Aren't on a CD, the only updates on CD are the Service
Pack 2 updates.

I am on dialup too, but I do not see the need to constantly re-install
anything..

Evidently you have not done your homework regarding update downloads and
installation. Microsoft provides the option of you downloading updates and
installing them AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY-- set XP to download updates
automatically but to notify you rather then installing automatically. Doing
so results in a "balloon" appearing on the task bar notifying you that
updates are available for "installation' - there will be two in initial
choices - "express" (Auto install of all updates) OR "CUSTOM" which lists
updates individually - clicking an update indicates its purpose - provides a
check box if you want to install the update. Another option is
available --which if you select you will not receive any further notice
pertaining to updates you choose not to install.

You aren't very clear in what you want to accomplish. Do you want to be able
to pick and choose which updates to install and when? This can be
accomplished within Windows Updates itself.

If you are having problems with your computer such that you have to do
frequent re-installs then I suggest that first you figure out what is
causing the problem and fix it. A workaround would be to use an imaging
program such as Acronis TrueImage or Norton Ghost and create an image
immediately after you have done a fresh install and installed the updates.

If you expect Microsoft to provide free CD's everytime they release an
update you are living in dreamland. It ain't gonna happen
