Backing Up Issue

The computer that I'm working with uses a Win-XP Pro. I
wanted to back-up files into an external hard drive with a
USB connection. When I try to do a scheduled backup and
try to log-off, the backup does not go thru. It seems that
the external hard drive also disconnects whenever I log-
off. How will I resolve tis issue?

I use a 3rd party backup program called Backup Plus. The company is
AVANTRIX. It gives you a lot of options. I run both to a Zip drive and a
CDRW drive.

Let's me get my data off the machine every day. Better than a batch program
I wrote a long time ago and no longer use.
