FP2000 won't associate the background image with the web page. It shows in
the normal view, but not in the preview or browser. Same deal with themes.
Help!

Do you first open the web via File Menu | Open Web, before opening the page? If not, you need to.

Yes I did. It will not only recognize an image, but background color won't
show in the preview pane or browser. I'm stumped.

If you have an image it replaces the background color
- make sure you are using an image in your site
(File Import the image before using it)

I have tried linking to an image from mydoc/pictures folder and I have
imported images to the web images folder and named them as background images.
I have tried using the properties box to put in a color. That's the one that
really gets me. That should show up regardless.
I have tried using the formatted themes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled FP2000.
I have installed FP2003.
Still no background colors or image. I can link to a picture and put it in
the web page, just no background colors or pictures. The html shows that it
should be there, but it's not.

If when viewing the html, the links to the images etc start with C:\ it means you have linked to
images without the "web" opened, or have linked to images that are in a location "outside" of your
web.

Everything used in a "web site" **must** be contained in a location within the folder / directory
that "contains" the site. The folder / directory will have a blue "globe" icon on it.

Ok, I'm really starting to feel like a dope.

In "my computer" C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Webs\My
Web3\Images
I can open the jpg files and see them.

If I open the web through FP, C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My
Webs\My Web3
then attempt to open a picture by going "File" "Open" "Images" in the open
file box with "All Files" in the "files of type" check box, I can see the
names of the pictures in the web. When I click on one, I get

"Server error 'images/name.jpg' does not refer to a page or folder in this
web. It may be a page or a folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed
URL."

Also, why won't the background color show instead of an image when I try to
insert color instead?

Don't feel bad, it can get frustrating.

2 things to try.
1. Close FrontPage and then do a file search for files named *.web and delete all found.
Do the same for *.tmp and then reopen FrontPage and then the web and then try.

2. Check to see if in fact the folder My Web3 is a folder with a blue Globe on it. This indicates
it is a web.
Then check to see that the folder My Webs does *not* have the blue globe icon but is a plain yellow
folder.
If it has the blue globe, you have unintentionally converted it into a web which makes My Web3 a
subweb of My Webs.

I tried your latest suggestions, but nothing that I've tried has made a
difference. I bought FP 2000 in 2000 when I was building web pages for an
org. that I was involved with. Up until that time, I had used Netscape
Navigator Gold, but had read that FP was the best, so I thought I'd give it a
try. I didn't care for it then because I didn't understand what it was trying
to do, so I gave up and went back to Netscape.

Now it's 2004, I've had MS Office and a lot of hands on with the other
programs, so I decided that I would take on a project building a web that
contained illustrated procedures for work and post it to the Intranet. Since
the project will ultimately be quite large, I dusted off the FP to use again,
this time because of it's interface with the other Office components, and the
many features such as shared borders, reports and so many other things that
would make my life easier.

I've wasted several days, probably at least 20 hours trying to resolve this
issue, and am no closer than when I started. I feel like I've bought $120 of
frustration, when all along I could've used Netscape and built it for free.

Once again I ask, why won't it show a background color in preview or
browser? I can see it in normal view and the html?

Can I build pages using Netscape Composer and import them into FP so that I
can use FP features?
