background service called "ratmite"

i have a service installed on my system called "ratmite". i dont know its
doing or what programmed installed it. my concern is that this service is
malicious as the name doesn't sound too pleasing.
does anyone know what this service is for? and is it harmmful?

It is described as a beta but it's now fairly stable.
